There have been four major phases in the development of our building and grounds: | |

As a security precaution, maps of our grounds and facilities are available upon request by contacting the Church office. |

| 1960 Mission site: In December 1960, five people gathered to worship the Lord in an abandoned bait house at the intersection of 620 and Volente Road, a few miles from the present location of St. Luke's. | ||

| 1962 Original Lake Travis Site: The congregation grew, and with the help of the Diocese of Texas, bought the present site in 1961. St. Luke's on the Lake sits on a hilltop overlooking Lake Travis, part of the highland lakes chain developed in the 1930s and 1940s to provide and control water resources for the Lower Colorado River and south central Texas. The Lake Travis area attracts a diverse and growing population that includes longtime Austin residents, newcomers, weekend residents, and tourists. | ||

| 1965 Narthex Expansion: The Rev. Malcolm P. Riker not only selected the present site, but also used St. Luke's as a springboard from which to launch nearly one dozen new congregations. Malcolm Riker's enduring legacy is the Episcopal evangelism he brought to the Austin area. | ||

| 1978 Nave and Parish Hall Expansion: Early in 1976 it became evident that Riker Hall had to be extended to provide additional classroom space for the Sunday School. The Vestry decided the nave would also have to be enlarged. Riker Hall was converted into classrooms, and the present parish hall, library, and choir room were added under the extended nave. This addition was completed and dedicated in December 1978. | ||

| 1996 Office and Classroom Building: Since then, the growth of communicants has continued to outpace the growth of the facilities. A two-story structure was built between the main church and Riker hall, providing more classrooms (downstairs) and new office space (street-level). | ||
