The
Reverend Michael H. Wyckoff, Rector
|
Michael Wyckoff was
called to be the third rector of St. Luke's in the summer of 2004. Previously,
he served churches as Rector (Senior Pastor) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and
Temple, Texas. Michael is committed to the Great Commission of Matthew
28:19,"...go forth therefore and make all nations my disciples..."
He believes the local parish is the most effective avenue for this evangelism,
and wishes to build on St. Luke's vision of becoming "a community
in Christ and Christ to the world." As the Rector, he is the primary
preacher, and, also, teaches a bible class on Sunday mornings.
Michael and his wife,
Martha, have two high school children, a daughter named SoRelle and a
son named Talbot. A fifth member of the family is an English Springer
Spaniel, Simeon, named after Michael's hero, the 18th century priest Charles
Simeon of Cambridge. Michael enjoys reading, golf, following his beloved
Houston Astros, and watching his children's activities.

The Reverend
Parker Jameson has been an Episcopal deacon and priest since 1981 and has
served congregations in Amarillo, Dumas, and San Antonio, Texas and
Alexandria, Louisiana. After serving four years as the Associate Rector
at St. Luke’s on the Lake, with the retirement of the rector in May of 2002,
he then served
as the “locum tenens,” essentially the
priest who shepherded St. Luke’s on the Lake through the months of the interim
time between rectors. With the arrival
in July 2004 of our new rector, Parker
is again serving as Associate Rector for the parish. He loves what he is
doing and invites you to telephone or e-mail him to arrange to visit about
any questions you might have about the parish, about joining St.
Luke’s on the Lake, or about the Episcopal
Church. He
has been married to Paula for over twenty-five years, and they have two
sons in college, both of whom they are very proud. Parker
and Paula both enjoy gardening with plants native to Texas.

Philip May is a parishioner of St. Luke's, and a priest in the Anglican
Church of Canada, the sister church of the Episcopal Church. Philip was
ordained in 1990, and has served in several parishes in the Toronto area
as an assisting priest and as a rector. By
permission of the Bishop of Texas, Philip began helping with Sunday duties
and some educational programs during our interim period. His wife Heather
is an electrical engineer with IBM, and Philip's regular job is taking
care of their two children, Linnea and Alexander. |

Christian
Education Staff: At
St. Luke's on the Lake, formation of young persons in the Christian
faith and life is a primary focus of our mission. Allison Eckelkamp,
Dr. Nancy Phillips, and Sam Spradling lead a large team of volunteer
teachers to provide a comprehensive, Biblically-based educational
experience for youth K-12. Each year, an overall theme (Prayer is
this year's theme.) is integrated into all levels of the program.
Beyond
the Sunday morning classes, Rite K (for K-6) and Little Liturgy
(2-3 years) are liturgical worship experiences for younger members.
Vacation Bible School in June brings together almost 200 children
and almost as many leaders from within and without the congregation
for a wildly creative week of learning and growing in relationship
to God and one another. Special events occur throughout the year.
Ann
Thompson coordinates child care for almost every parish event. Strict
ratios of care givers to children and multiple age-based rooms ensure
loving, quality care of our youngest members.

| Adult
Formation Staff: Adult Christian formation gets as
much priority at St. Luke's on the Lake as that of children. There
is a selection of diverse, engaging, and well-attended courses at
a time on Sunday mornings. Special workshops of interest to adults
are offered throughout the year, including a Summer series.
With a growing congregation, St. Luke's focuses on integrating
new members and on supporting the leaders of the many programs.

| Music
Staff: Music
is an essential part of Sunday morning worship at St. Luke's on the
Lake. At the 9:00 a.m. service, Dr. Don Grantham leads 20 plus volunteer
singers (newcomers welcome, no auditions necessary) in challenging
and inspiring anthems, and Jeannie DeArmond-Henselman, drawing on
the broad resources of an electronic "pipe organ," leads
congregational singing. At the 11:30 a.m. service, Sandra Capelle
leads the 30 plus members of the Renewal Music Group who provide music
leadership with compelling contemporary praise songs and anthems (again,
newcomers are welcome). |
