Profile: The Reverend Roland A. Timberlake, Rector Emeritus
 |
The Rev. Roland A. Timberlake was ordained in 1972. Before being ordained he had been a U. S. Naval Aviator and in business with his father in Victoria, Texas. After ordination he served congregations at St. Mark’s in San Antonio and St . Christopher’s in League City, Texas. He was called to be Rector of St. Luke’s on the Lake in 1982. His favorite ministry is pastoral care. He served on numerous committees and commissions in the Diocese of Texas. He was on the Executive Board, elected President of the Standing Committee, and also appointed Dean of the Austin Convocation by the Bishop. He served as the diocesan and provincial Chaplain to the Daughters of the King.
Fr. Roland retired as Rector in 2002 after 20 years of service. In 2007, the Vestry of St. Luke's designated him as Rector Emeritus. He now assists with Sunday services, sometimes teaches an adult class, and occasionally helps the full-time clergy with other ministry duties. In 2008, he was appointed by the Bishop as Chaplain to the retired clergy and spouses in Austin and the surrounding area. His favorite pastime is reading history, especially the history of the United States during westward expansion.
Roland married his high school sweetheart, Alice Jean, in 1955. They have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
