UPDATED "Fellowship for Family Formation" Organizational Meeting 11:30a [Riker Conference Room] Or, 4F. Unless you can come up with a better name. Please join us with your ideas for a BRIEF organizational meeting. We will have coffee and treats, and children can hang out in Snack Shack with appropriate supervision.
Who should be there: Being a parent is NOT a prerequisite. Anyone interested in making a further investment in the spiritual formation of our children and youth here at St. Luke’s is needed.
Why are we meeting: As part of our Parish-wide Strategic Goals Initiative last year, we decided to create a group similar to a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for St. Luke’s Family Ministries, which include Children’s Ministries and the Episcopal Youth Community.
What is our intent: We envision a group that would support our volunteer teachers, staff and each other in prayer, encourage volunteer participation and support fundraising for mission trips, capital improvements (like more computers or upgraded video equipment) and a multi-use, 15 passenger van!
How long will this take: The meeting should last no more than 30 minutes. We just want to get the info out there, judge interest and get started. Please join us!
NEW Lenten Devotional Resources Available Now (Narthex) Lent begins next Wednesday, February 22nd. Please visit the display in the Narthex and choose a devotional resource for your family. NEW Guild of the Christ Child Meeting Monday, February 20th, 10a-noon (Fellowship Hall) If you are a Mom (even if you are a long-time empty nester), you are invited! The Guild was devised for Moms to come together and share experiences, concerns, time and fun. We especially encourage those who might just need a little “adult time,” even if you don’t realize you need it. ? We will be meeting this Monday, February 20th from 10a-noon. Childcare, coffee and chocolate is provided. Please join us for some Mommy-support as we share discussion time on relationships. As a program, plan to enjoy a “home-ec” lesson from seasoned Mom, Pat Beachy. She will be sharing some of her quilting work and tips; there will even be a sewing machine for you to test your motor skills!
NEW Expectant" Healing Service Scheduled Thursday, February 23rd 6:30p (Downstairs Library) A note from Glad Curlee, St. Luke's Member, Licensed Counselor and Facilitator:
"I did a Google search today for the word “healing”. I got over 47 million results. As I began to wade through them, I saw some interesting things. “to restore to health or soundness”, “cure”, “to set right”, and more. Those are pretty good definitions and, it appeared that I might be headed in the right direction. As I looked a little closer, most of the results I found started getting into what “formula” I needed to work in order to achieve that “touch from God” type of healing.
The only consistent “formula” that has seen any fruit through the centuries is this: Come to God EXPECTING Him to touch you. But, for some reason, we’ve been convinced that we have to do “something” to achieve God’s healing. Seriously? There is a lot of energy being spent to separate the concept of healing from a simple, expectant touch from God.
God is EXPECTING you to EXPECT Him to touch you…..just ask. Join us - we'll show you how."
NEW A Call for Help for Children Orphaned By AIDS In the Diocese of West Buganda, Uganda Help is needed to continue to honor our commitment to again provide funds for the education of the children orphaned by AIDS in the Diocese of West Buganda. The Vestry has approved an initial $3,500 as requested by the Outreach Committee, and now additional funds are needed to care for these children and to assist
in their education. Your donations will help to provide food, clothing, bedding, stationary, medical needs and school fees for children from Nursery School through Secondary School (High School). School is not free: the cost of education for one student over the age of 12 is $500 per year.
Photographs of the children are posted on the Outreach board in the Parish Hall - please look at them! Bishop Godfrey Makumbi writes about the pictures: "The younger children enjoying a meal are between the ages of 3 & 7 years old. Regarding the meal, we have an end of year Christmas gathering where we combine all Birthdays of the orphaned children under our care with that of our Lord Jesus Christ. This continuously reminds them of their special relationship with our Lord. The dancing group are older children of 8 -13 years. They get involved with Dance and Drama as a way of educating other children, parents, and other members of the communities on the danger and plight of children affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic."
Please keep these children in your prayers and consider a donation in any amount to assist in the sponsorship of a child in need. Checks may be made payable to St. Luke's on the Lake & designated "Diocese of West Buganda" For more information call Ann Herbert, 263-5663.

Stephen Ministers Stand Ready to Help St. Luke's currently has four male and eleven female Stephen Ministers, two men in training, and twenty-five more parishioners who have served as Stephen Ministers. We are all members of St. Luke's and have been trained, commissioned and are committed to helping others who are experiencing emotional pain from grief or from some other life challenge. We know how hard it is, especially for men, to talk about difficulties with someone else because we've been there. Now we want to help others who are hurting - and with strictly confidential, Christian one-to-one care. We believe that no one should have to face such pain alone. If you think that you, or someone you know--whether a member of our parish or not--might benefit from meeting with a Stephen Minister, please contact Fr. Mike, Fr. Parker, one of the Stephen Leaders listed below, or any Stephen Minister.

Palm Sunday Passion Readings, Sunday, April 1st St. Luke's has a longstanding tradition of parishioners reading the Passion during Palm Sunday services. This year's reading is from the Gospel of Mark. There are many parts to read at both the 9a and 11:30a services; some are just one line, some are many lines. Each reader (except "Jesus" and the "Narrator") simply stands up where s/he is in the pews to read. Please e-mail Barbara Frazell if you are interested in participating in this moving experience.
