Habitat for Humanity 2011 Report: A Letter from Gary Cook
Hi St Luke’s Habitators,
Congratulations on a great day of construction last Saturday. St Luke’s was extremely well represented and we got a ton of work done! It tried to rain on us a little but this crew was not to be held back.
The house is currently estimated to be two weeks ahead of schedule. I am so proud of you guys. Several of the the Habitat staff approached me later in the day and commented on how St Luke’s people really had things together and worked so quickly and accurately. Our six years of experience is paying off!
Here’s the list of construction volunteers that came out to represent us: (let me know if I miss someone)
Joy Pashby Bob Pashby
Joe Lazarski Michael Lazarski
Richard West Scott Grant
Scott Beachy Tom Gress
Mickey Burnup Frances Boesch
Lynn Cook Shirley Siler
Bryan Bumpus Kim Hall
Russ Eitel Pat Eitel
Patrick Eitel Jeff Roberts
Linda Davis Mike Peacock
Bruce Bigelow Les Montgomery
We also had a tremendous meal courtesy of the MOSL and WOSL groups with special thanks to Mike Fields and Elaine Gress for their coordination efforts including Lowrene Fowler, Jan Dugan, and John Van De Graaf who helped with delivery and prep. I know there were many more behind the scenes so please accept our thanks.
Many of us had a chance to meet and talk with the the Mena sisters (pictured below, left and center,) who will be the owners of the house. They were both there working the entire day. They are two of the sweetest people you will meet.
From a financial standpoint, we are also making excellent progress. Thus far, donations have reached $4,000 which puts us almost 2/3 of the way to our goal of $6,500.
Soooo, we’re now on the home stretch for this year. We need to raise another $2,500 and the campaign will be complete.
Thanks to everyone for your tremendous support. This is such a blessing to these people, literally changing their lives, and helping fulfill our St Luke’s mission to be a community in Christ and Christ to the world.
We are all in His service,
Gary
