HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Saturday, September 4th

  • CALLING St. Luke’s MEN and BOYS of ALL AGES!!  MOSL is sponsoring a wonderful event on Saturday September 4th from 5p-8p where the Men and Boys of our church will spend an evening together sharing in some fun, cooking and eating and listening to brief teachings by Joe Crawford and Fr. Mike on mentoring. This will hopefully be the first of several events where the men and young men of our church can get together to build good healthy relationships, whether it is a father and son, or sons without fathers and men in the church. It is an opportunity for boys to learn from the men and the men to learn from the boys. We are meeting at St. Luke’s in the outdoor chapel where BBQ’s will be set up and some games will be played. Great food and fellowship. Please contact Mike Fields for more information at 349-2861 or miafields@aol.com .

o        The Guest and Visitor Coffee Series Whether you are a guest or a recently arrived parishioner at St. Luke’s on the Lake, this is the best entry point for becoming oriented to how we strive to practice the Christian faith here.  The Guest and Visitor Coffee is a safe place to ask any question you like about the Christian faith, the Episcopal Church, and St. Luke’s on the Lake and to explore the answers with others.  The five classes in the Guest series are non-sequential and are repeated throughout the school year, so that you can join the class on any Sunday without having missed anything [Library]

Ø      History introduces you to those elements of the Episcopal Church which are distinctive to the Episcopal Church and those which we share with other Christian churches.

Ø      TODAY:  Liturgy introduces you to the Sunday worship which is at the heart of our weekly life as Christians.  How does this worship service affect us?  What are the essential components of the service?

Ø      Parish Life introduces you to all of the activities and groups which make up St. Luke’s on the Lake.  What are you looking for? September 12th.

Ø      Journey is one person’s story of their relationship with Jesus Christ and how that relationship shapes their daily living.  September 19th.

Ø      Walking Tour is an introduction to both the history of St. Luke’s on the Lake and to the physical plant.  If you don’t know where the “Dungeon” or the “Tunnel” is, then whether you are a newbie or an old-timer, this class is for you.  Tour starts at the Rock rather than in the Library.  September 26th.

TAEHS offers a lively method of engaging the Scriptures through reading, study, conversational and silent prayer, and group sharing.  Two new groups are forming—one on Sunday mornings, led by Paula Jameson, and another on Tuesday evenings, led by Fr. Parker.  GROUP SIZE IS CAPPED AT 12 and slots are filling quickly—if you are interested in participating in either group, call the church office as soon as possible at 266-2455.

o        Christian Healing  Begins September 12th  Led by Glad Curlee  From reading the Gospel, everybody knows that Jesus miraculously healed people.  Have you ever wondered if Jesus is still healing people today just as in the Gospel accounts?   If you attended our healing conference in April, you had the opportunity to hear Rev. Mike Endicott teach on this subject and witnessed several examples of healing in our midst.  Glad Curlee studied at Jacob's Well healing center in Wales, UK, under the tutelage of Rev. Endicott.  Glad has put into practice what she learned and is offering an eight-week adult education class on Sundays 10:30a to 11:15a beginning September 12th.  All SLOL members are invited to join in, as well as members of the Order of St. Luke the Physician.  Members of the church service prayer teams are particularly encouraged to attend this class.  For further information, contact Scott Beachy at scottbeachy@austin.rr.com.

OTHER NEWS

Missions/Ministries/Outreach

  • Faith in Action Caregivers/Northwest Needs YOU!!  According to Mary Duggan, “We are in a really critical situation at this time. We will be giving well over 250 round trip rides this month and many one-way rides, 2 to 4 per week. As you can imagine that takes a huge amount of manpower. We have already added 21 new clients for the month as of this week so we are growing by leaps and bounds.  If folks have the time to drive just once a month it would be ever so helpful. This is a rarity in volunteer jobs, you can drive as much or as little as you want and you can suit your schedule. There are a few things that can be done late in the day, say after 4p, and maybe even some on weekends. We also have a need for drivers to take clients to our twice-monthly social events. That happens from 10a until 12p at Anderson Mill Baptist Church on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. That is a regularly scheduled drive and we try to organize car pools so one driver delivers more than one client and those are arranged within proximity of each other.  Please pray about this need and help if you can.  Thank you!!”  Please contact Mary Duggan at 259-2720 or  mjd@austin.rr.com, or Carla or Sue at 250-5021 or fnwcaregivers@sbcglobal.net.
