March 1st: REST

March 1st: REST

Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

During these complicated times, with COVID19 hanging over all of us, one may often have difficulty dealing with daily life. The key word for today is “rest”, and the recommended scripture is Mathew 11:28-30. Rest can come in many forms. Examples: Sleep. Peace of mind. Spiritual comfort. In Mathew 11:28, Jesus reminds us that rest is available through Him. In verse 30, He tells us that his yoke is easy, and his burden is light. What a blessing!

Achieving rest is not an easy acquisition. What has proven essential for me is to try to get “right” with the Lord in order to open the endless possibilities through Him. Repentance is the first step in the process. Humble yourself as you try to open communication lines. Then ask God to forgive you. As Jesus states, he is always available. Frequent attention to your spiritual being is important. Don’t be a stranger to the Holy Spirit. Prayer and Bible reading is often the key for many of us to keep the lines open.

The Lenten season is a special time to take note of where you need help. Perhaps God will seem more open to you as you strive to find his way for you now. Make the effort. Then listen closely to receive his message. Take advantage of what He has offered to you. “Getting right with the LORD” presents a wonderful opportunity to achieve true rest and peace.
