Why, then, should we speak of sin anymore?” asks Episcopal priest Barbara Brown Taylor in her short book “Speaking of Sin.” During the season of Lent, we will be enriched by this accessible and deeply enriching work of theology as we concentrate on key biblical themes that can easily fall into neglect: sin, repentance, penance, and salvation. It is in naming sin, not avoiding it, that we are enabled to move from “guilt to grace” so that we might “take part in the divine work of redemption.” Join Rev. Kathy and Rev. Anthony in the Parish Hall at 9am during the season of Lent for this engaging study.

Reading the book is NOT required for participation, and classes will stand on their own. However, for those who would like to read along, here is a week-by-week overview with page numbers:

  • February 22nd - Introduction: Speaking of Sin (p. 1-5)

  • March 1st - One: The Lost Language of Salvation (p. 7-27)

  • March 8th - Two: Sin Is Our Only Hope (p. 29-47)

  • March 15th - Three: Recovering Repentance (p. 49-68)

  • March 22nd - Postlude: Righteousness Redeemed (p. 69-72)
